Location and diet
The Vaquita has the smallest geographic range of any marine animal, only 900 square miles. It can be found in the northwestern regions of the Gulf of California, Mexico, where it lives in small lagoons. Vaquitas can be found about 16 miles from the shore usually 33-92 ft deep water. The water has many animal and plant communities and is very rich in nutrients.
Vaquitas eat small schooling fish (gulf croakers and bronze-striped grunts), crustaceans, some squids and octopus. They usually prey on the small fish that commonly live in the bay.
